ERC Advanced Grant

Seven ETH Zurich professors have applied successfully for an ERC Advanced Grant. Only top researchers’ projects are supported by the European Research Council (ERC).

The goal of Prof. Neri's ERC Project is the development of novel classes of therapeutic agents, with “activity on demand”. The project focuses on certain aggressive cancer types and chronic inflammatory conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), which at present cannot be cured by conventional drugs.

Education

Graduates of ETH Zurich are much sought after on the job market thanks to their broad fundamental knowledge and their practical approach.

Our focus

Research in our laboratory focuses on the engineering of protein-based therapeutic and diagnostic agents. This research combines chemical, cell biological and molecular biological techniques. We aim at constructing large repertoires of mutant proteins, from which proteins with the desired phenotype (e.g., binders or catalysts) can be selected. Typically, these agents are then chemically modified for biomedical applications. Particular attention is dedicated to the development of tumour targeting agents, and to the discovery of novel markers of pathology.
